The Experience
1. Before Your Session
Let’s start by planning a session that truly feels like your family.
We’ll chat about:
- The personality and dynamic of your family — is it relaxed, energetic, sentimental, or all of the above?
- The best location — whether that’s a favourite park, the beach or your home.
- Clothing ideas that work well together (coordinated, but not too “matchy”)
- Any special moments or relationships you’d love highlighted — like a parent-child bond, a sibling laugh, or even the family pet
I’ll make sure everyone — from toddlers to grandparents — feels prepared and excited for the shoot.
2. On the Day
The key to great family portraits is keeping things natural and fun. I’ll help guide you with gentle direction, but the best images often come from spontaneous, real moments.
You can expect:
- A friendly, relaxed session with plenty of laughter
- Time for both posed and candid shots
- A pace that allows little ones (and grown-ups!) to stay comfortable
- The freedom to just be yourselves — play, cuddle, or explore together
Don’t worry about perfection - genuine connection always photographs beautifully.
3. After the Session
Within a few days, you’ll receive a private online gallery of beautifully edited preview images. From there, you can:
- Select your favourite portraits to be fully retouched
- Add prints, wall art, or albums to your order
- Receive your final high-resolution images in a secure, downloadable gallery
Editing is kept timeless and true to life — so your portraits feel warm, natural, and full of heart.
4. Tips for a Wonderful Family Session
- Clothing: Choose complementary tones and comfortable outfits — layers and textures look great.
- Timing: Morning or late afternoon offers soft, flattering light perfect for families.
- Snacks & breaks: Bring small treats or comfort items for kids (and adults) to keep spirits high. Don't forget to bring drinks or water to keep hydrated.
- Relax: It’s okay if not every smile is perfect — the in-between moments often make the best memories.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do we get our Photographs?
I will send you a link to your gallery which is protected by a password that has been prearranged. You photographs will be beautifully presented from where you can enjoy a slideshow, view them in a thumbnial gallery or flick through them one by one.
Don't want your photographs online?
Our galleries are securely protected online, but I understand that some people do not want their family pictures online.
II will provide a USB Drive to be delivered by post to you for a small fee of $15 handling.
How do we book?
You can contact me on phone or email to book your session. It costs 30% of the price of the session to book your date. I accept Credit Card Payments (through Paypal and Square), cash and direct deposit.
Where are you based?
I am based in Collinswood, Adelaide and am available for sessions within the general Adelaide area. Get in touch if you’d like more info.
Can we purchase prints and albums?
I actually suggest this to families. Having your photos displayed around your home will bring you joy every day. Of course you can print these yourself, or order straight from my website. Many clients simply don’t have the time to spare to arrange prints or albums themselves, so they leave it in my hands.
There are many options for prints and albums. It depends on requirements and the price. These can be discussed after your photo session. There is no pressure on you to make choices before or after a photo session and seeing you have your selected original photos you can opt for printing them yourself. It’s completely your choice.
Where will we do the session?
You may have a special location such as a park, beach, river setting, hills, urban location or your home. I can suggest locations depending on your interests as a family. The main thing is that you and your family are comfortable with the setting and that it is reasonably quiet, so that other individuals are not in the photographs.
Do you have a studio?
I do not have a studio open to clients. I can setup a mobile studio on request for an extra $100 if there is room enough in your home with a grey tone backdrop.
But my clients usually prefer to have their photographs in the home setting or at an outdoor location. I use a combination of sunlight and flash to produce a natural look.
What should we wear?
Since we’re trying to photograph real moments we’d encourage you to just wear whatever you usually wear with colours that compliment each other. Clothes that are comfortable to play with the children in. And for the kids - if you’re kids are likely to be painting or baking or playing in the sprinkler, then whatever is comfortable and you don’t mind getting messy.
Do we need planned activities?
The location often helps shape the activity on its own. Simply do what your family naturally enjoys, and the result will be genuine fun—and beautiful photos. This relaxed approach also gives the children time to get comfortable with me and the camera.
I’ll be there to blend in and capture those real moments. When everyone is having a good time together, the photos will show it. Even the posed shots won’t feel forced—they’ll be natural, joyful images that fit seamlessly into the fun of your outing or time at home.
What if my children are shy with new people?
My photography style is a blend of candid, activity-based moments and relaxed, posed shots. I like to start with the activity photos, quietly capturing your family as you enjoy your time together—whether it’s tossing a ball in the park, climbing on playground equipment, or just having fun.
Once everyone’s comfortable and engaged, I’ll move on to a few posed photos. By that point, the smiles are genuine, the energy is natural, and the interactions between you all create beautiful, authentic family portraits. As a parent myself who’s always photographing my own family, I know how to help both adults and children feel at ease in front of the camera.
